This glimpse into designer Ernest de la Torre's bedroom shows us that dark walls paired with the right accessories can create a room that doesn't feel too gloomy. The rug, daybed, mantle, and artwork pop thanks to their lighter shades against the dark walls. To get this look at home I would stick with this balance of light and dark: dark walls and light accessories with pops of color through pillows and florals. This is definitely a look to steal for the winter and I think cozy chic says it all!

My school colors in college were red and black, and going to a large university in the south let me tell you....they were everywhere. As school colors go, it could be worse, but by graduation I had had my share of this color combo. Fast forward a few years (and a few less tailgates) and red and black aka "blushing zebra" is starting to look fresh again. With these colors I usually prefer to go all one way and then accent with a dash of the other color, like this red rug from Ballard Designs with a greek key border. I actually own two of these and love them! The deep red is a really nice shade and you can't beat Ballard's pricing.

I often reference the images of Ali MacGraw and Ryan O'Neal in Love Story when looking for fall fashion inspiration. Camel coats plaid scarves, knit hats, and dashes of red among the Harvard campus and Central Park scenery are just what I need to get me in the mood for cold-weather dressing. Fun fact: Ali MacGraw worked for Harper's Bazaar and Vogue in the early 70s and also as a model and stylist before embarking on her Hollywood career. Sounds like the perfect primer for a style icon!

When it comes to adding natural elements to the home it's best to go for unusual objects. Think beyond plain old boring wood and seek out petrified wood, which is the result of a tree having turned completely into stone by the process of permineralization. If you want to ease into the look, this tray from Jayson Home is perfect for entertaining and will look great with fall and winter tabletops. I also love agate and am obsessed with these striking Kenneth Jay Lane clip-ons. Definitely a must-have!

Halloween is a holiday I really get excited about not only because of the major decorations involved, but also because of the costumes! I like to go the handmade route or at least patch something together from my closet. Are you dressing up for Halloween this year? Do tell!

I only recently discovered Society6 — an online community where artists can upload prints and set the price themselves. One of the clever things about it is that the artwork is available not only as prints and canvases, but the product range also includes iPhone cases, laptop skins, and t-shirts. It's wonderful for up and coming artists to have a venue to showcase their art to promote and to see the art world evolving in yet another direction. And I don't know if you noted the prices, but they are super affordable...what's not to love about that?!

Collar necklace are big this season, and I for one couldn't be happier. While I cherish my collection of long necklaces, the shorter collar necklace has so many uses. I love a large necklace like this leather collar from ASOS — paired with a button down and some olive accessories would make a great fall outfit. Bejeweled options like those from Iosselliani and Suzanna Dai always looking stunning with a simple dress. It's hard to go wrong with these gems!

Snakeskin is one of those materials that is not only timeless, but pretty much goes with anything (though is usually best in small doses). Take this python tray — I would place this everywhere from a coffee table to a bathroom and it would mix with the girliest to the most bohemian of decors. And this wouldn't be KELLY MARKET if I didn't include this season's colorful take on snakeskin. ZARA's got the trend down pat — their wallet, clutch, and messenger bag are at the top of my list if you're ready to get colorful. I say, go for it!

We're back with Hillary Thomas and a few of her essentials and favorite things. I was so excited to learn that Hillary is not only developing a signature candle, but that it's named after the Gasparilla Inn, which a wonderful historic Inn in southwest Florida. Do take note of Hillary's beauty essentials: Fracas perfume, By Terry rose balm, and MoroccanOil anything are all fab products to seriously consider adding to your morning routine. Oh and Yummy Baked donuts? I think I need to place an order ASAP — they look seriously delish! Thanks so much Hillary for sharing your must-haves and short list with us!
It's no secret that I'm a huge fan of Hillary Thomas and her shop in Brentwood — aptly named Chic Shop — and I couldn't be happier to add her to our roster of must-haves. "I'm a little bit old WASPy chic, a little bit Palm Beach fab, and a little West Coast boho eclectic," says Hillary summing up her style. I can't think of a more perfect combination, can you? Chic Shop contains vintage finds hand-picked by Hillary and business partner and best friend, Clara Hendon, from weekend trips to flea markets as well as their own collection of boyfriend pillows and finials. Hillary also pens the blog Happiness is a Pink Foo Dog — which, obviously, it is! Stay tuned tomorrow for a short list of Hillary's essentials including her beauty musts and favorite gifts to give.

Just because the weather is changing and all-black uniforms are in queue (I'll admit, I'm a lover of an all-black look myself now and then), that doesn't mean we have to kiss our color-loving days good-bye. In fact, it's just the opposite. Prepping in the morning with kate spade's new cosmetic bag would make things a lot cheerier and I would certainly sparkle with this crystal rainbow bracelet — I can think of plenty of excuses to wear it, can't you? To a colorful life!

Veronica Swanson Beard's Manhattan apartment (which is a 3-story penthouse I might add) stopped me dead in my tracks when I spied it on Harper's Bazaar earlier this week. Between the show-stopping turquoise kitchen cabinets and the overscale mirrors, the apartment very much has a Dorothy Draper-feel to it. Beard's style sensibilities extend beyond the home to a namesake fashion line she runs with her sister-in-law — who coincidentally is also named Veronica Beard :)

Orange is always on my mind come October. Perhaps it's the inevitable orange and black Halloween combo or the pumpkins at the market and thoughts of the pies I will bake for Thanksgiving. Or maybe it's the sartorial influence of my street style favorites Mira Duma and Giovanna Battaglia (their boldly patterned dress are so me). Whatever the reason, I'm crushing hard on orange!

While I don't exactly think of myself as a girly-girl (pink will never be a go-to color for this gal) I wouldn't exactly say masculine is quite my look either. I think the best part of defining your style is pulling from different looks until you have a style that's all your own. I would definitely mix these digitally printed pillows from ABC Home with this black and white print by artist Destiny Womack for a look that is all me :)
Another book coming out this month that I'm really excited about is Vogue: The Covers. As you can guess by the title, the book is composed of more than 600 of the fashion bible's best covers. Organized by decade, the covers provide an amazing illustration of the magazine's 120-year history. As a collector of vintage Vogue prints (and all things Vogue for that matter) this book is at the top of my wish list!

Bookshelf has never been this long — 12 books, my goodness! — or this exciting! Between Martyn Lawrence-Bullard's debut book, the much talked about Diana Vreeland tome, and the latest Cecil Beaton book, I'm in a tizzy. What are you looking forward to reading? Do tell!

I always know I'll find something on Etsy and this latest round-up of goodies is no exception. I'm loving these red bistro chairs from Sara Kate Studios, which also happens to be one of my favorite Etsy haunts. The classic chair looks so fab in red and would give any kitchen a nice pop. Happy hunting!
1 Carine Roitfeld: Irreverent by Carine Roitfeld, Olivier Zahm, and Alex Wiederin, Rizzoli, pre-order $63.00 2 By Malene Birger Animal-Print Faux Fur Coat, Net-a-Porter, $895 3 Mongolian Lamb Pillow Cover, West Elm, $54.00 - $129.00 4 Fornasetti Bacio Tray, Barneys New York, $158.00 5 Elie Tahari Nyla Sandal, Zappos Couture, $218.00 6 PU Pencil Rib Side Skirt, Topshop, $75.00 7 Fallon Multi-Chain Rose Bib Necklace, Intermix, $89.00
Karl Lagerfeld once said that if you close your eyes and imagine the ideal French woman, it would be Carine Roitfeld. The former French Vogue editor's life and work is brought to the forefront in Irreverent, a glossy new biography available on October 18. Filled with magazine tears and personal photos, the book also has documentation from some of the most talked about shoots in fashion history. Also fun: personal notes from the likes of Tom Ford, Alber Elbaz, and Dolce & Gabbana to name a few. Make room on your coffee table, this is gonna be a good one!

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and there's no easier way to give back than to do it while you're shopping. One of the most creative collaborations I've seen is The Pink Swan Project from Suite New York which benefits the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Nineteen interior designers, architects, and fashion icons have customized the Fritz Hansen Swan Chair designed by Arne Jacobsen. It's fun to see everyone put their stamp on the iconic chair and to try and match the designer to the chair. The chairs will be auctioned off all month and can be viewed here.
