I loved this room (which is actually a poolside, freestanding screened-in porch) from the moment I saw it. I instantly recognized its homage to my longtime idol Dorothy Draper, and was even more smitten when I learned of its nearby locale here in Atlanta. The couple didn't miss a beat channeling Draper through the black-and-white flooring and Chinese Chippendale chairs, to the detailing on the screens. Can you even imagine hosting a poolside gathering here? Soooo terribly chic!

ART SHOW

There's something so unexpected about black botanical prints. I think it's the way the colors really pop against the dark background...it's just so rich. I recently discovered these prints at the Evolution Store and had to share. They're available with or without wooden dowels and at a reasonable price. I can picture a pair flanking a large mirror in a dining room — two is always better than one, wouldn't you agree?

I'm starting to get excited about mixing in some pastels...these warm spring days are just begging for it. I've got my eye on these slingbacks from ZARA — aren't they chic? I have a pair of flats that are very similar and they surprisingly go with more than you'd think. :)

Playrooms are the perfect space to really get creative with color and pattern, furniture, and accessories. While nurseries and bedrooms are for sleeping and down time, this is a place where you want kids to feel happy, inspired, and excited to learn, play, and create. I think it's important to start with a solid base, like cabinets and/or shelving and a table and chairs, and then be flexible with artwork and accessories. Kids are constantly changing their interests and it's great to have a space that can grow with them.

Here's a short checklist of some playroom essentials:

Cabinets and/or open shelving with plenty of space for toys, books, games, etc.

A large open floor area for playing games, spreading out toys, setting up a teepee!

A table is a must for art projects and board games.

And don't forget both child and adult-friendly seating...you'll want to be comfortable in their space too!

With spring on the horizon, I've been perusing warm weather clothing and accessories big time. But it's also nice to find some chic, wallet-friendly finds for the home. I know neon can be a bit intimidating because it's just so, well, bright. But I promise it looks chic when paired with solids like all-black or all-white come summertime. And I'm guessing more than a few of us have some neon baubles in our jewelry boxes because this is one trend that never seems to fade...am I right? I know I do!

I get asked this question a lot, and it's somewhat tricky to answer. While I do have a few favorite sources, I'm always finding hidden gems like this gourd lamp from JCPenney....what a pleasant surprise!

In the under $75 category, Target can usually be counted on — be sure to check online as well as in the store because the inventory doesn't always overlap. IKEA usually has a few good options as well, though I would probably take a DIY approach and spray paint the base and/or the shade — their styles just look so plain to me!

You have to weed through the selection on the bigger sites like Overstock.com, Lamps Plus, and Home Decorators Collection a bit, and I wouldn't expect to find a "bargain." There are definitely some diamonds in the rough, and sites like these often have coupons and discounts so it's always worth a look.

Honestly, two of my favorite places to look online both style-wise and price-wise are Etsy and Ebay. You have to have a lot of patience and definitely know your way around a search engine shopping on Ebay, but it can pay off. I recently bought a pair of huge ginger jar lamps on Etsy for only $80.00!

One last thing to keep in mind: height, height, height. If you're replacing a lamp, then measure the height of the existing one. Lamps can look a lot bigger online and even on a store shelf than on your bedside table. Always measure!

Console tables might just be my favorite piece of furniture to decorate. The styling possibilities are endless between mirrors, artwork, lamps, and accessories. I'm currently working on three consoles (two in my own home and one in a client's) and loving each one more than the last. :)

I'm absolutely loving the blue and green palette of this Claire Desjardins painting. I can't think of a better way to welcome spring than with two of my favorite colors. And I especially love the little pop of orange...it really gives it that extra something. :)
